Blackslate
Logo design · Visual identity · Art direction · Brand system · Apparel · Signage
Blackslate is a video production house that needed a brand with the same quality and intention they bring to the work they produce for others.
The design concept came directly from the medium: the logo and icon were inspired by the angled geometry of a traditional film clapper board — an object that's synonymous with production and immediately legible to anyone in the industry. The visual identity extended that thinking through a rich, textural use of black: grainy and reflective surfaces that nod to both the grit and the sleekness of high-end production.
Critically, the black also functions as a practical design solution — it acts as a focusing frame for Blackslate's video content on their website, ensuring the brand never competes with the work it's meant to showcase.
The identity rolled out across logo, signage, road cases, embossed production gear, staff uniforms, and a website designed and built by the Blackslate team.
